The laws of attraction for dummies

December 13, 2016

The law of attraction is a hot topic and unsurprisingly, there have been numerous amount of literature that has been published on the matter because the premise of it is quite fascinating.

However, I’m a little mindful of how I present my own views on the subject. Basically, I don’t want to write those type of articles that take you on a “journey to higher enlightenment” or those ones that tell you to “think positive thoughts and you will get what you want”-none of that hippy shit.

Don’t misunderstand me:

I don’t think there is anything wrong with those type of content stated above, I just feel like they are too generic, cliché and can be irritating especially if delivered at the wrong time so here’s what I’m going to do: I’ll share one of my recent experiences, break down the steps on how I invoked the law of attraction and how I made it work to my advantage.

(Feel free to zoom in and read that picture)

I uploaded this very same picture on my Instagram page in early November just for banter but, I meant every single word. I always get what I want and this was one of my many “charming” attempts to have things my way.

*[Sarcasm Loading]*

I loved the part where a lot of graphics designers kept ‘liking’ the damn picture on IG but my DM was super dry! Not a single one of them reached out to me. (I’m not salty at all lol).

I was broke and required the services of a graphics designer at a discounted rate of a 100%. How exactly do I make this happen especially when I don’t know any graphics designer that would be willing to work for free..?

Fast forward two weeks after I posted the picture on IG, I found myself in a conversation with a very talented young man about my mission. Although he’s technically not a graphics designer by profession, he claimed to do it as a hobby. (I still find that hard to believe. You’ll find out why in a moment).

I explained my financial situation to the guy and told him precisely wthat I wanted. A week later, he sent across the concept picture below.

invoking the law of attraction by getting timi to draw me a concept

The following week, he created the masterpiece that I now feature as the face of my website:

Random fun fact:

We share the same name. This guy is super talented. Clearly, only greatness is attached to our names. You can check out more of his work here.

How did I invoke the laws of attraction?

All I did was 4 simple things:

  • I created a specific goal in my mind then;
  • I wrote it down on paper then;
  • I believed that I will achieve and receive what I wrote and finally;
  • I put in some damn work

Let’s explore these four things a little further

Creating specific goals

My goal was to get some help from a graphics designer on a voluntary basis. There was no grey area in my request. I had a specific demand/goal which had zero ambiguity (irrespective of how comical it may seem).

Lesson: I can’t stress how important it is to make specific requests or goals. At the end of the day, we only get the things we ask, therefore, if you’re too vague in your requests, they just might just end up in the universe’s spam folder #Facts.

Write down your goals

There is simply something special about writing goals down on paper- No! Not on your phone, not on your laptop but on paper.

I can’t explain it but something phenomenal occurs when I write down my goals on paper. I find that it often triggers a chain of unexplainable events to occur in real time.

In my example, who knew that a month after I posted that picture on Instagram, I would receive exactly what I have asked for at no cost to me.

All I did was pen down my primary goals before coming up with creative ways to make my request public. I wrote down precisely what I wanted, how I wanted it and also wrote down a detailed description of the image I needed creating.

Lesson: There is nothing stopping you from doing the same. You don’t have to share your goals or what you’ve written down with anyone or even look at it ever again. The main thing here is to simply write it out for you to see. In a way, it solidifies your ambition(s) so to speak.

This step coincides with the one above.

This is what I like to call the “internalisation” phase.

Some of you might be familiar with the saying that “seeing is believing”. I can definitely confirm the accuracy of this statement.

Seeing my goal written down literally creates a scenario in my head where I envision myself already accomplishing that goal. Sometimes, I even find myself having dreams about achieving my targets. I internalise the fact that I’ve already accomplished my objectives.

All these put together strengthens my faith and, as a result, I find myself living as though I have already accomplished that goal without even realising my behaviour. This is where my confidence comes from!

Lesson: I utilise this same mentality when I have a job interview. I believe that I’ve got the job before even showing up for the interview.

Put in some damn work

The law of attraction will NOT work if you don’t. It’s that simple.

“Faith without works is dead”.

Simply put: it doesn’t matter how many times you complete steps 1-3; you won’t invoke the law of attraction if you sit on your ass all day rather than putting in the effort to get what you want.

You have to take pro-active steps and put yourself in the best possible position to achieve!

Do you think that I would have accomplished my objective if I didn’t send some DMs (and get rejected a few times)?

Do you think I would have achieved my objective if I wasn’t asking the right questions?

Do you think I would have achieved my objective if I didn’t initiate a conversation with @timsonjb?

I say all that to say this:

The law of attraction is real and can be interpreted in different ways.

What some people call the ‘law of attraction’, others call “a prayer of faith”. Regardless of what you choose to call it, you’ll be surprised by what you can accomplish if you just follow my four steps.
